It took a little while to get everything in order, but I've finally completed my Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird Tips and Tricks pages. These pages contain various tips I use in my Firefox and Thunderbird package. This includes a detailed list of what I consider to be the most useful extensions and themes for each, as well as my personal user.js and prefs.js preference files.



This update covers Firefox 1.5 and Thunderbird 1.5.

I've added a new application named Universal Extractor to my software section. This application integrates into Windows Explorer and allows right-click extraction for any type of archive, including installers.



Over twenty types of archives are currently supported. Full details about usage and supported formats can be found on the information page.

I've uploaded a new version of Open With Arguments. This version adds argument history. Up to the last 10 arguments will be saved and can be recalled at any point.



This will also likely be the last version. At this point I consider OpenArgs feature complete. Unless I get an itch to add something new (or get a reasonable request), this is it. Enjoy!

The first two applications have been added to my Software section. Actually, they've been on there for some time now, but I just updated both of them and realized that I never did announce them on the front page. 0ops.

I've added a new section to the Open Source portion of this website titled Jared's Software. This area contains the applications and scripts that I've either written, packaged, or contributed to in some way.



Only one application is currently listed in the section, but this will grow as I have the time to post them. Since I often spend a good deal of time on these projects, I wanted to share my work in the hopes that others may benefit as well. Please e-mail me if you have any questions about it.



By the way, I know it's been a long time between each of the last few updates, but rest assured this site isn't dead. I've just had very little free time for front-page updates.

It took awhile, but I finally got around to adding a few more high-quality pictures from the St. Jude's fundraiser. Check out the gallery for some additional pics of brutal head-shaving fun.

Although my Open Source page has been somewhat neglected as of late, I just added a new section for Mozilla Thunderbird. This section will contain various tips and tricks for Thunderbird that I personally use and recommend. So far I've only had time to write up the message highlighting tip, but more will be coming in the next couple weeks. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.



Mozilla Thunderbird Tips and Tricks

The Ximian Connector for Microsoft Exchange allows Ximian Evolution clients to access accounts on Microsoft Exchange 2000 servers. It is available through Ximian Red Carpet in its own channel or through novell's website. See the product's site for more details: https://store.ximian.com/xproddetail.php?sku=XCN14-DL-U01.



Unlike the regular Ximian Evolution client, the Ximian Connector for Microsoft Exchange is proprietary software and source code is not available.

Thanks, Andrew! Actually, the connector has, in fact, recently been GPL'ed. This happened a few months ago, thanks to Novell. Details about this can be found in the Evolution 2.0 press release from Novell.

I know I'm very late posting this, but since this is so significant (and I happen to have a slight bit of free time right now), I wanted to post the news here.



For anyone who may be unaware, Firefox is basically a stand-alone version of Mozilla's web browser. However, Firefox has been greatly enhanced, supports a ton of useful new features, and can be easity extended with any of the hundreds of extensions and plugins available for it.



Similar to Firefox, Thunderbird is the stand-alone version of Mozilla's mail client and address book. It has also been greatly enhanced, and is officially (by my standards) one slick e-mail client.



Here's a compilation of useful links for both Firefox and Thunderbird. If you haven't tried either Firefox or Thunderbird yet, please give it a shot. Trust me, give it one week, and you'll be thanking me for turning you on to it.

Why You Should Use Thunderbird

For you open source freaks out there who want (or need) to use Windows, stay virus free, but only use open source software (besides your OS), there is a new piece of antivirus software out there. ClamWin is a Windows port of the well-known ClamAV, released under the GPL, and it works very well. Besides your own use, it's also good to have a free/legal solution to those house calls where your friends/neighbors/family has a virus but doesn't want to buy AV software.
