Universal Extractor

"Spoon Installer" support

Hi all,

I think i found a way to extract files from setups generated with the SpoonInstaller (http://Spoon-Installer.sourceforge.net/).

I wrote a small windows batchscript to unpack the OpenTFTPServer setup (http://tftp-server.sourceforge.net/).
You can find it here: http://wwwhomes.uni-bielefeld.de/joehlschlaeger/unpSpoonInst.cmd.txt

It has not been tested on any other SpoonInstaller, yet.

More information and the requirements can be found inside the file.

Have fun and I apologize for my mad english skills :)

Portable/Binary Universal Extractor v.1.16: No Execution Notification

Hello everyone. Just downloaded and used UE v1.16, in its portable version. First of all I would like to say well done to JB & his team for this wonderful app.

Secondly, before using it for the first time I took the time reading a little bit about the app itself. It looks as though that, it's not very clear whether it executes a file (a .exe in my case), before it extracts it.

From another discussion in the forum I saw that JB argues that should this be the case (to execute it, before extraction), Universal Extractor should notify us prior to this action. This prompt action, should give us the choice of whether or not to execute the file, and proceed with extraction.

I have 2 questions:

1. I have extracted 6 .exe files, all successfully (1 of them with the second attempt), but in NONE of them I got any notification about an execution from UE during extraction. Does that mean that UE did not execute any of these files? Or because I have used the portable version it did not ask me anyway? And is this always the case, that is: If I don't see any notification does it mean that no executions took place during extractions?

2.Since it's the portable version I have used, history-log is disabled. Fine. But how can I change the directory that UE deposits the error log file? Because in one of them .exe that I extracted, the 1st attempt failed and UE recorded an error log in my C:\, somewhere that I did not take a note of. So not only I don't remember where it is, but I cannot change the root either.

I would appreciate your help in the above issues.

Thank you very much in advance.

Extracting from potential tojan binded exe

Hello

Sorry for posting in this forum, apparently the MSFN forum has problems with new registration at present.

I need some information on how Universal Extractor works. Does it actually run the exe file from which it extracts data or not? This is because I'm quite sure there is a file which has a trojan bound with a bona fide program and I just want to extract the program from that exe. If I use UE will it run the exe thereby infecting the system with the trojan?

Thanks a lot
